How Do I Start ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy works in a series of stages starting with a consultation and evaluation. You should search for “aba therapy near me,” and find a local ABA therapy provider to schedule an evaluation. The initial assessment with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBC) is a Functional Behavior Assessment, or FBA. Part of the assessment is interacting with your child and determining their strengths and challenges. The BCBA will also meet with you and your family to discuss your goals and challenges that you would like addressed in your child’s ABA program.
The clinician will spend some time interacting with the person being assessed to make notes and observations about their behavior, communication, and skills. Doing observations within the home and school setting may also be part of the assessment because the more an ABA therapist can see the person engaging in their typical daily activities and routine, the more accurate their findings will be, and better-tailored the program. The initial evaluation is thorough, and this allows for a specific treatment and intervention plan to be designed.
Clinicians will monitor progress closely over time, and treatment plans may be adjusted based upon the client’s needs and skill development.
The first step toward improving the life of your loved one is to contact a local ABA Therapy provider to ask questions, and schedule an initial evaluation. Contact our office in Lakewood, Colorado today to discover how ABA Therapy changes people’s lives!
